Civil Service Pension Schemes

There are five Civil Service pension schemes administered by MyCSP:

nuvos Scheme

You are in this scheme if:

You joined after July 2007

Your pension choices as a new entrant are to join either nuvos or partnership. Your letter of appointment will give you the details. You will be issued with a pension choices pack shortly after you start your new job – If you do not get this please contact your internal HR department.

partnership pension Scheme

You are in this scheme if:

You joined after 1st October 2002

You opted to have a partnership pension account

Your pension choices as a new entrant are to join either nuvos or partnership. Your letter of appointment will give you the details. You will be issued with a pension choices pack shortly after you start your new job – If you do not get this please contact your internal HR department.

premium Scheme

You are in this scheme if:

You joined after 1st October 2002 and before 29th June 2007

You chose to transfer  all your classic service to premium from 1st October 2002 in the pension choices exercise

premium is an defined benefit occupational pension scheme.

When you retire, your pension is based on the years you contributed to the scheme and on your pensionable earnings in your final years of service.

premium was closed to new entrants from 30 July 2007 onwards but is still offered to people who are re-employed and fit certain criteria

classic plus Scheme

You are in this scheme if:

You joined before 30th September 2002

You opted to keep your classic pension for past service and join premium from 1st October 2002

classic plus  is a defined benefit occupational pension scheme based on final salary. The scheme is a combination of your Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (PCSPS) benefits up to 30 September 2002 and the equivalent of premium benefits from 1 October 2002. You pay a variable contribution rate dependant upon your pensionable earnings.

classic Scheme

You are in this scheme if:

You joined before 30th September 2002

classic is a defined benefit occupational pension scheme based on final salary. You pay a percentage of your pensionable earnings, and your employer also make their contribution.

classic was closed to new members in 2002
